The Faro Foundation held an event today where Manuel García-Mansilla and María Ibarzabal Murphy, legal and technical secretary of the Presidency, discussed the main points of the upcoming structural reforms on the agenda of President Javier Milei's government.
The event, which took place at the Yacht Club of Puerto Madero, was attended by more than 350 guests and featured the special participation of Adrián Ravier, current academic director of Fundación Faro and candidate for deputy for La Libertad Avanza in La Pampa.
The government of President Javier Milei intends to push through reforms that seek a paradigm shift to leave behind the problems that have been holding back Argentina’s development for decades. In this regard, the conversation focused on how reforms in the judicial sector aim to redesign the Argentine legal system in line with the liberal values with which it was initially conceived; and on the importance of preserving the necessary legal certainty so that the rules do not become a framework that fills the legal actors with the values, ideals, and preferences they hold.
The main objective of judicial reforms is to reduce and eliminate the state, as well as to leave room for the citizen to develop freely, allowing for a better social development where the “what is not prohibited is permitted” principle is reinstated. As Ibarzabal Murphy points out, “that the state become a guardian and not an oppressor.”.
In this regard, García Mansilla spoke about the working team that has been formed and that is working on 15 bills to reform the Civil Code, the Customs Code, the Code of Banks and Financial Institutions, the Tax Code, the Media Code, the Trademark Law, and the Council of the Magistracy, among others. These reforms will allow the modernization of the outdated legal system and limit judicial discretion to the maximum possible extent.
Among the tasks carried out by the Faro Foundation are: a civic training school; the design of government policies; a megaphone for pro-market ideas; courses and seminars for young professionals and entrepreneurs; and an integration route for start-ups.
